One of the great time-honored and true Hawaii activities you could enjoy is the sunset sail.  I vividly remember the first activity I did as a visitor to Hawaii was a sunset sail and the experience of that ocean adventure really set me up for a love affair with Hawaii.

Big Island of Hawaii sunset sails are obviously held during the sunset hours and generally speaking the winds have a tendency to "die down" during this time into a gentle breeze.  These are not typically vigorous sails that stretch the capabilities of your sailboat but are rather more relaxing or soothing as gentle breezes waft you along at a more casual speed.  Hawaii sunset sails are all about relaxation usually in conjunction with some appealing appetizers and an accompanying libation.

Big Island of Hawaii sunset sails are certainly suitable for children but I rather think about them as more romantic in nature, perhaps just for the two of you.  The colors at sunset time during what Hollywood calls the "golden hour" paint a shimmer of color not only upon the horizon and the setting sun but also behind you as you view back at the Big Island itself with its towering volcanoes shrouded in a halo of clouds.

Big Island sunset times provide a time of romance and togetherness that are often missing from many Big Island adventures.  These are time when you can not only appreciate the sunset sail itself  but be able to reflect on the larger scope of things as your connection to the real world dissolves in the lapping sounds of the ocean gently splashing against the keel and the sound of gentle winds filling the sails above.

Sunset Sails and Cruises on Hawaii
Hula Kai- Well, this sunset cruise on the Hula Kai is not a sunset cruise in the traditional sense, but on the Big Island things can be a little different. The beautiful new fifty-five foot hydroplane designed catamaran Hula Kai, does go out at sunset for an sunset cruise but its main objective is to see and snorkel with the spectacular Manta Rays that are found in the evening time off the coast of Kona. For Manta Rays feeding time is sunset time and these spectacular marine animals can have a wingspan of fifteen feet. To sooth down your flow of adrenaline you can have a drink at the bar after your adventure.
Kamanu Charters The trade winds this time of the evening are usually a gentle breeze suitable for a pleasing romantic voyage.  The small numbers of people taken (the limit is ten couples) and the over-all "laid-back" ambiance of the sail make it one of the most relaxing evenings of your stay in Hawaii. In addition to light "pupu's" you will be treated to an open bar of beer, wine and MaiTais. These colorful and romantic sails are two hours in length and will depart from the Honokohau Marina. Expect more than just a delightful sunset however as you are often joined by dolphins and certainly whales in season.
